The Council of Governors of the Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities was established under the auspices of the League of Arab States to strengthen cooperation among Arab central banks and monetary authorities and enhance coordination on monetary and financial issues of common interest.
The Governors began meeting formally in 1972, with the Council adopting its current framework in 1978. In 1980, the Council approved its procedural rules and designated the Arab Monetary Fund as its Technical Secretariat. The Council is supported by a Permanent Bureau responsible for following up on decisions and preparing annual meetings.
Today, the Council serves as the principal regional platform for cooperation among Arab central banks and monetary authorities, promoting dialogue, coordination, and the exchange of expertise across the Arab region.
