Financial Inclusion Task Force
The Regional Working Group on Financial Inclusion in the Arab Countries was established in 2012 following a recommendation by the Council of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities. Comprising directors and officials responsible for financial inclusion at Arab central banks, the Working Group operates under the Arab Banking Supervision Committee, with the Arab Monetary Fund serving as its Technical Secretariat.
Objectives
The Working Group contributes to the development of policies and procedures that promote financial inclusion across the Arab region. Its mandate includes improving financial inclusion indicators, supporting Arab countries in implementing relevant international standards and principles, strengthening cooperation among national and international institutions, facilitating the exchange of experiences and best practices, raising awareness of financial inclusion and consumer protection, and preparing studies and technical papers on financial inclusion in the Arab countries.
Technical Assistance
The Working Group meets at least twice a year and serves as an active platform for coordination and knowledge exchange among Arab countries on financial inclusion issues. It prepares technical papers for review by the Arab Banking Supervision Committee before submission to the Council of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Authorities. As the Technical Secretariat, the Arab Monetary Fund supports the Working Group's activities, facilitates regional cooperation, and assists in preparing technical studies and recommendations based on relevant international standards and principles. Since its first meeting in Abu Dhabi in December 2013, the Working Group has produced a range of technical papers addressing key financial inclusion issues in the Arab region.
